Open celebration of a terrorist organization in Berlin: an alarming sign for our society?

It seems that we have to get used to the fact that Berlin is increasingly showing sympathy for a terrorist organization like Hamas. This group is responsible for the death and suffering of over 1,200 people in Israel and thousands more victims in Gaza. The fact that such an organization is publicly celebrated in a German city is a cause for concern and raises questions about how such gatherings and their potential impact on peaceful coexistence should be dealt with. The display of support for actors who promote violent conflicts contradicts the values of an open, democratic society and calls into question society’s responsibility to react consistently to hatred and violence.
